In a display of relative stability, Michigan gas prices have seen negligible change over the last week, maintaining an average of $3.27 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. As noted by CBS Detroit, these figures mark a minimal decrease of a single penny compared to the previous week and are 14 cents lower than prices recorded at the same point last year. The current cost is presenting a $9 saving on a full 15-gallon tank compared to the August 2023 peak prices.
According to information gathered by AAA, which was mentioned by Upper Michigan's Source, Dickinson County currently boasts the lowest average in the region at $2.39 per gallon, while Mackinac County, being considered the most expensive, hovers at $3.47 per gallon. With gas demand potentially on the decline and crude oil prices dropping, "pump prices could follow suit," says Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group, in a statement obtained by multiple sources.
The most and least expensive gas prices in the state have been differentiated by only a few cents. Motorists in Ann Arbor are finding the highest rates at an average of $3.32 per gallon while those in Benton Harbor enjoy the lowest at $3.16 per gallon. Metro Detroit sits in the higher tier with an average of $3.31 per gallon, which is approximately 9 cents below last week's price, as reported by WNMU.
Woodland of AAA, who has been at the forefront of providing insights on these trends, underscored the steadiness of the prices to local media. "With the state average down just one penny from a week ago, Michigan gas prices have held steady," Woodland said, as per WNMU.
