
In Thompsonville, Michigan, Carolyn Jean Braun, 61, is now facing charges of animal cruelty after authorities discovered 18 dogs in distressing living conditions. The Michigan State Police of Cadillac responded to a call on October 8, where they found Braun attempting to transport several dogs in a pickup truck, with no record of the veterinary appointment she claimed to have, upon verification by the trooper, as reported by MLive.
During the trooper’s inspection of the property, the conditions under which the dogs were kept were described as "very poor," and the number of dogs, initially claimed to be 11 by Braun, turned out to be 17, plus an additional dog discovered later in a conversion van, 9and10news detailed the incident with evidence of negligence, following the seizure of the dogs by Manistee County Animal Control, the report of the scene was turned over to the county prosecutor and an arrest warrant was issued.
All dogs were seized by Manistee County Animal Control, and Braun was subsequently arrested and arraigned in the 85th District Court in Manistee County, facing one count of abandoning/cruelty to animals—10 or more but fewer than 25, one count of a stray dog, and one count of failure to keep dogs vaccinated, according to sooleader.
With a set bond at $2,500, her case continues to concern local authorities as her next court appearance is scheduled for November 5 at 1 p.m.
