The Milwaukee Brewers confirmed the return of pitching coach Chris Hook for the 2025 season, as the organization concluded a deal that re-affirms their commitment to continuity on the coaching staff. As reported by FOX6Now, Brewers manager Pat Murphy praised Hook's extensive contributions, saying, "Chris Hook has had a tremendous impact on our entire organization over the last 17 years." He expressed his excitement: "He has a knack for helping pitchers who may have hit a bump in the road to lengthen and solidify their Major League careers. I’m excited to have him (as) part of our staff going forward."
Since Hook took the reins in 2019, the Brewers' pitching prowess has been striking. Under his guidance, the team boasts top-five MLB rankings in strikeouts, opponent batting average, H/9IP, K/9IP, and ERA. The franchise's record for single-season strikeouts peaked in 2021 with 1,618. As recounted by JSOnline, the Brewers have found themselves in postseason contention five times in the past six seasons, a streak that dovetails with Hook's term as pitching coach.
Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold also shared his endorsement of Hook's return. According to a statement obtained by MLB.com, Arnold commented, “Chris has been an invaluable asset to the Brewers as demonstrated by the success we have had on the mound over his six seasons as pitching coach. He consistently gets the most out of his pitchers year in and year out and we are happy to see that continue.”
Chris Hook's baseball pedigree is well-established, having spent 17 years within the Brewers' organization and preceding that, 11 professional seasons as a player. He also brings previous coaching experience from independent and collegiate baseball to his role. In an interview published by JSOnline, Hook expressed the driving force behind his decision to stay, "Matt and his group are going to find the right guys to make it work for us. I think that is the driving force in my coming back."
