On I-94 near Kenosha County, a major crash involving several vehicles and multiple semis occurred, followed by intense fires on Friday afternoon. According to CBS58, Somers Fire and Rescue teams responded to an incident in the 600 Block of I-94 South, where they found three semi trucks and four vehicles involved, with two of the semis and one vehicle on fire.
An additional issue occurred when leaked fuel ignited a large vegetation fire after entering the storm drains, leading to traffic disruptions and environmental hazards. Eight people were injured, with half taken to the hospital for treatment, as reported by FOX 6. All victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
The incident forced a nearly six-hour closure of I-94 as emergency crews worked on rescue operations and cleanup. The Kenosha County Sheriff's Office told WISN 12 that the crash initially closed both southbound and northbound lanes, with the northbound lanes reopening after about two hours. Injuries sustained were minor. The southbound lanes eventually reopened around 9 p.m. The area has since been cleared, and regular traffic has resumed, allowing commuters to navigate the roads safely.
