An intense search for a missing 2-month-old infant ended in relief as Ohio authorities located the child safe and arrested the suspected abductor. The child, identified as Caius Burris, became the focus of a statewide Amber Alert following his reported abduction by his father, 27-year-old Russell Burris, during what was described as a domestic dispute in Lithopolis, according to NBC4i.
Found in the area of Lachlan Landings Drive, the child was quickly handed over to his mother, while the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office later apprehended the suspect. With the alleged abduction initially taking place in a silver 2009 Honda Accord also carrying two other adults, Russell Burris's capture brought a conclusion to a harrowing chapter for the family and community, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch. Authorities initially feared for the safety of the infant at the time of the abduction, intensifying the urgency of the search.
The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office updated the public through social media, confirming that Burris was taken into custody. A statement obtained by WSYX shed light on the events, recounting a woman's 911 call in which she claimed Russell left her at a business in Lithopolis and abducted Caius. Sheriff Alex Lape confirmed the infant's discovery shortly before 5:30 p.m. yesterday.
Upon finding the child charged in connection with the incident, Russell Burris now faces domestic violence with other charges pending. He was arrested in Pickaway County, thereby reconvening the infant with his mother, providing a spark of hope amid what could have been a tragedy of unspeakable depth, as detailed by NBC4i.
According to ABC6 News, the sheriff's office is still urging anyone with additional information to come forward, advocating using their mobile app's "Submit a Tip" button or contacting them directly at 740-652-7911.
