An extensive law enforcement operation targeting drug and gun trafficking unfolded early Wednesday across multiple Annapolis neighborhoods, parts of Anne Arundel County, and Baltimore City, as reported by the Capital Gazette. According to an email shared with the publication, the FBI Baltimore Field Office orchestrated the raids following a "lengthy investigation."
According to Fox Baltimore, the action commenced around 6 a.m. with Annapolis Police informing city council members about expected "huge convoys of about 20 SWAT teams" from various federal agencies, which had been mobilized to execute the operation; Annapolis constituents were also warned about potential flash bang noise disturbances as part of the raids' execution. Wednesday's events showed a statewide effort to tackle ongoing illegal activities. However, details about the neighborhoods targeted or the number of arrests in each area have not been revealed.
In a message relayed to city officials, Annapolis Police projected that the raids would lead to approximately 20 search and seizure warrants being served, alongside 16 arrest warrants. As stated by the Capital Gazette, this was expected to cause a spike in 911 calls due to the commotion. Despite the arrest of 14 suspects, as confirmed by the FBI Baltimore Field Office, further details concerning the ongoing investigation have not been released.
