Commuters were pleasantly surprised as the Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge reopened 13 days earlier than anticipated. The essential connector over the Ohio River had been scheduled to shut down for 30 days starting September 23 for a critical facelift, but crews completed the work in just 17 days. The expedited timeline is a result of sterling efforts from the Complete General Construction Company, which was tasked with the $813,529 project to restore the bridge surface.
Underlining the achievement, Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 Deputy Director Mike Dombrowski lauded the public's patience and the workforce's diligence. "I appreciate everyone’s patience as we made these improvements. We knew this project would be a big disruption for people on both sides of the Ohio River. We really appreciate the hard work of the contractor to complete this vital work safely and ahead of schedule," Dombrowski said in a statement obtained by the Ohio Department of Transportation. The early completion signifies a feat of engineering and a keen adherence to the needs of the region's commuters and businesses.
