Early Friday morning, a wrong-way crash claimed the life of one woman and left several others injured on a major Las Vegas freeway. FOX5 Vegas reported that the collision occurred around 2:52 a.m. on the northbound lanes of U.S. 95 near Charleston Boulevard. One of the vehicles involved was reportedly travelling southbound in the northbound lanes. Among those injured, several were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Following the incident, all northbound lanes of U.S. 95 were closed, with traffic being redirected to Boulder Highway. According to a statement obtained by 8 News Now, this closure was expected to last several hours, causing significant delays, and drivers were advised to find alternative routes. The freeway, known as I-11 before the renumbering, has since become a site of investigation as state police work to determine the cause and exact details of the crash.
Nevada State Police's Trooper Shawn Haggstrom confirmed that a female passenger in the wrong-way vehicle was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. "A passenger in the wrong-way car, identified as an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene," Haggstrom informed News 3 LV. The identity of the deceased and the conditions of those injured have not been made public at this time.
