A fatal shooting incident last night in Grand Rapids’ southeast side left one woman dead and two men with serious injuries. According to a report by WOODTV, the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) was summoned to the 900 block of Pastiche Drive SE around 7 p.m., where they discovered the gunshot victims.
GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom divulged that the lethal event appeared to be precipitated by an argument outside an apartment building. "There was an argument, words were exchanged, shots were fired, and then at least one shooter fled in a vehicle," Winstrom told WOODTV. However, authorities have yet to identify a suspect or provide descriptions, as they continue to methodically collect evidence from the scene.
The deceased was described by Winstrom as a mother in her 50s, while the injured men are reported to be in their 30s, as stated in an MLive article. The investigation, conducted by GRPD’s Major Case Team, is actively ongoing and the police have not disclosed the identities of the victims.
At the scene, family members of the woman who was killed and other residents were interviewed by police. "A lot of family members who are absolutely devastated tonight, of this young woman who was a mother, her mother's actually on scene as well,," Chief Winstrom explained in an interview with WZZM13. Winstrom indicated that the shooting seemed to have been a targeted attack, stating, "These two men were likely targeted." The chief also expressed the department's determination to quickly bring the perpetrators to justice once the two injured men have sufficiently recovered.
