As Tropical Storm Milton churns through the Gulf of Mexico, Orange County Public Works is stepping up its efforts by providing self-serve sandbags to residents. Preparing for the onslaught of potential flooding, the Roads and Drainage Division will make these sandbags available at select parks throughout the county.

According to Orange County Government, starting Monday, October 7th, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Orange County locals will be allotted ten unfilled sandbags and access to a sand pile for filling them. However, folks will need to bring their shovels. The distribution continues into Tuesday, October 8th, with the same operating hours, weather permitting. Locations may shut down earlier depending on the conditions brought by the tropical storm.

To assist residents with special needs, Orange County officials encourage contacting Orange County 311 for sandbag assistance. As outlined in a public notice posted by the county, this can be done by simply dialing 3-1-1 or by calling 407-836-3111.

Residents can collect their sandbags at several locations, including Barnett Park and Bithlo Community Park. The county has shared a complete list of sites, ensuring that community members can find a sandbag station in close proximity. To stay updated with the latest developments and storm preparedness information, the county urges residents to sign up for OC Alert, Orange County's emergency alert system, through its official website.
