Spooky Empire, the vaunted Orlando horror and fandom event, has scuttled its upcoming weekend plans in the face of Hurricane Milton’s march across the state. According to Orlando Weekly, the convention, set to run from October 11-13 at the Hyatt Regency, will be postponed, with promises of a new date to be announced as soon as possible. The annual gathering has long been a haven for lovers of the macabre, complete with film festivals, celebrity panels, and costume contests.
The Spooky Empire team shared dismay over the timing in a social media blast. Still, it underscored a commitment to safety: "While we worked hard to keep the event open this weekend, Milton has other plans for us." Concerns heightened as flights were canceled through Friday, and the potential for state-wide storm effects inched ever closer to certainty, as reported by Orlando Weekly.
Those seeking guidance on refunds and rescheduling were asked for patience. Organizers stated they would relay all necessary information by Monday or Tuesday of the following week, urging attendees to give them time until after the storm for proper coordination. To alleviate some immediate concerns for travelers, the Hyatt will automatically cancel all hotel reservations, except for those who have already checked in, as reported by GottaGoOrlando.
