Poinciana and Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS community witnessed the inauguration of their newest safeguard against the unpredictable rage of fire – Fire Station 85 on Cypress Parkway. The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, community figureheads, and the crews that partnered on this project assembled to honor the station's grand opening. Designed to enhance the emergency response capabilities in the area, Fire Station 85 stands as a testament to the county's dedication to public safety and service.
According to an announcement from Osceola County, the units housed in the new facility had been bunking with Polk County Fire Rescue at what was known as Engine/Rescue 65. While hosting both Engine 85 and Rescue 85, the new fire station will also make room for Rescue 83, which is set to eventually occupy a different location on North Marigold Avenue. Despite the move, Osceola County officials assured that there would be no impact on the units' abilities to respond swiftly to emergencies within their designated localities.
The $12 million project, which is 12,290 square feet, encompasses more than enough space for staff to manage their day-to-day tasks, including training, living, and planning for the demands of a growing community, according to Osceola County press release. Fire Chief Larry Collier relayed that the establishment of Station 85 highlights the department's persistent commitment to elevating Fire Rescue and Emergency services within the county. “This station puts our people in the right place to serve the community in their time of need today, while anticipating the growth our community and department may experience in the future," Collier stated, rooting for the station's strategic positioning and foresight.
Though Station 85 nests less than 2 miles away from Polk County Fire Rescue Station 37 – the previous locale of Engine 85 and Rescue 85 – the transition to the new spot does not alter the units' primary response zone.
