A grim sentence has been laid down for Pasadena resident Alex Daniel Guajardo, 27, who has been handed two life sentences plus an additional 10 years after pleading guilty to a grotesque crime,. District Attorney Ogg condemned Guajardo's actions, highlighting the broader societal peril of domestic violence, a red flag so criminally unheeded in this case, according to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg's announcement.

Guajardo's fatal act, which claimed the life of his pregnant wife, Caitlynne Rose Infinger Guajardo, and their unborn child, occurred on August 3, 2019, just 17 hours after Guajardo was released from jail. He had been previously detained for assaulting his wife; the subsequent freedom, allowed by a personal recognizance bond, proved fatal. Despite previous incidents, including the murder of their cat and a severe beating that resulted in his initial arrest, the justice system failed to prevent the escalation to murder.

The case, handled by Assistant District Attorney Mary McFaden and ADA Lindsey Bondurant of the Domestic Violence Division, reached its conclusion with Guajardo accepting his sentence after also pleading guilty to possessing a deadly weapon in a penal institution, where he was caught with homemade knives. "Although we can never bring back the victims, we worked to get justice for them, and hopefully this will help to bring some peace to their family," McFaden told the Harris County District Attorney's Office, reflecting on the judicial resolution of a case where, tragically, the red flags of prior violence went tragically unmitigated.

In a statement obtained by the Harris County District Attorney's Office, the victim's mother, Melanie Infinger, expressed her despair over the systemic failure that led to her daughter's untimely death. "Caitlynne did what she was supposed to do -- she had him arrested, and the justice system failed her," lamented Infinger. "She was a hero, she stood up to him and it was supposed to be over. But the justice system let him out, and he brutally killed her."

The life sentences plus 10 years will be served concurrently, ensuring that Guajardo remains incarcerated for the foreseeable future.
