Philadelphia drivers and residents, get ready for a wave of street paving in your neighborhood, which will bring road detours and parking changes. Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi has unveiled the latest schedule for the citywide paving project, set to begin today in the 4th Highway District, according to a press release from the Philadelphia Streets Department.
Among the streets set for resurfacing are Crittenden Street, where work will stretch from Gorgas Lane to Mt. Airy Avenue, and Woodbrook Lane, from Stenton Avenue to Anderson Street. The Park Line Dr and Horter St area, between Wissahickon Ave and Cliveden St, is also on the list. The project, weather permitting, will be carried out in phases, including milling, manhole adjustments, utility box resetting, and final paving, with completion expected over several months.
The first step is milling the old asphalt, which should take around five days per street, weather permitting. During this time, crews will also adjust manhole covers and reset utility boxes, a process that takes two to three days per area. The final touch—laying the new asphalt—should be completed in about three to five days for each section, as mentioned by the Philly Streets Department.
Prepare for roadwork from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with streets remaining open but traffic directed by temporary flaggers. Be sure to watch for "No Parking" signs. If ignored, your vehicle could be towed, and you’ll need to contact the nearest Police District to locate it. While the Streets Department is working to minimize disruptions, taking alternate routes will help keep things running smoothly.
The department asks for patience and cooperation as it works to enhance the streets with these improvements. City crews are managing the paving program to keep things running smoothly.
