Drivers and residents in Philadelphia should prepare for a series of street closures and parking restrictions starting next week. Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi has announced that street milling and paving activities are scheduled in the 1st and 4th Highway Districts during daylight hours during the week of October 7, the Philadelphia Department of Streets reports.

Areas affected by the closures will see temporary "No Parking" signs erected to alert vehicle owners to move their cars to avoid towing. According to the City of Philadelphia's official announcement, these signs will be posted before the milling operations, which are set to occur primarily during the day shift and are expected to take roughly five days per corridor.

Milling isn't the only activity planned; manhole cover adjustments and utility box resetting will also take place. This phase is slated for the day shift and should last two to three days for each affected stretch of road. Paving, the final phase, is similarly scheduled during the day and could span three to five days per stretch, depending on the weather.

Due to likely delays, the Philadelphia Department of Streets has advised motorists to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas. While the roadways will remain open with flagging to direct traffic, planning and using alternative routes is highly encouraged. The Department thanks the community's patience and cooperation as they work to improve the city streets, saying city forces will handle all work with minimal disruption to traffic flow.

Details regarding specific streets slated for work include stretches such as 46th Street from Haverford Avenue to Market Street in the 1st Highway District and Roumfort Road from Crittenden Street to Mansfield Avenue in the 4th Highway District. If a car is towed, residents should contact their local Police District to determine its location.
