Last Tuesday, a routine shopping trip turned critical at the Spanaway Walmart, when deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department intervened in what could have been a deadly encounter. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, loss prevention officers alerted deputies about a man who acted suspiciously, removing tags from clothing, and prompting a request for the individual to be banned from the premises.
The report details that once deputies approached the suspect, identified as a convicted felon, they asked him to accompany them to the loss prevention office for discussion; the man was initially hesitant but complied, however, tensions escalated as the suspect attempted to access his backpack during escort, despite deputies' caution against such action, eventually requiring a physical intervention to subdue and detain the individual.
Following the arrest, the deputies discovered a Ruger PC Charger "pistol," equipped with an extended 31-round magazine amongst the man's belongings, a notable find given his status as a convicted felon with an outstanding warrant for Assault in the 2nd Degree. The suspect now faces additional charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the 1st Degree.
