The rumor mill churns out its fair share of falsehoods, but Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers isn't letting them slide. After a now-deleted Instagram post by 247Sports suggested he would sit out the remainder of the 2024 season to prepare for the NFL Draft, Ewers was quick to label the rumor mill's produce as "fake news" on his IG story, according to KVUE.
It's fair to say that Longhorn fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Head Coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that Ewers is not only very much part of the team but also remains their starting quarterback despite being momentarily pulled off the turf during Saturday's clash with Georgia. "We were very clear of why we made that move at the end of the second quarter ... We [have] got a ton of respect for Quinn. A ton of confidence in Quinn. I think he's gonna come out and play really good football for us here the second half of the season," Sarkisian expressed in a statement obtained by KVUE.
This season's statistics hold up under the spotlight, with Ewers tallying 1,101 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Not to overlook, he accomplished this after missing two games due to an oblique strain. Following the game against Georgia, where he returned to throw two touchdowns in the third quarter, sources close to Ewers told Bleacher Report that the idea of Ewers sitting out the season "is absolutely not true."
The Longhorns, with Ewers at the helm, are not only looking to rebound from their recent setback but also tackle the big goal - securing a spot in the College Football Playoff. That journey involves a determined march through the remainder of their season, including games against ranked teams Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. With Ewers in charge, and a fair amount of confidence from Sarkisian, "I think, like I said, we've got to do a better job around him. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we've got to coach better. Everybody's got to be better for our offense to perform better," as per Bleacher Report.
