During NFL games, the sidelines can be tense and charged with adrenaline. When Las Vegas Raiders' Maxx Crosby was seen shoving linebackers coach Mike Caldwell, it sparked speculation. However, Crosby clarified that the interaction was not contentious but rather a show of camaraderie and motivation. According to News 3 LV, he described it as a "love push" aimed at boosting morale, even after the Raiders' 32-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After the game, Crosby took to social media to clarify the shove and express his respect and affection for Caldwell. He emphasized that such physical interactions are normal within their team's culture, especially during high-tension games where both men encourage each other as "alpha males." Following a sack late in the game, the broadcast captured the push, leading Crosby to explain in a post-game interview, "He was hyping me up, and I hyped him up the same,'" as reported by The Review-Journal.
The quick dissemination of the footage and subsequent stories online shows how quickly events can be misinterpreted when viewed out of context. Crosby, understanding the nature of the beast that is social media and sports narratives, confronted the story directly. According to his locker room elaboration reported by The Review-Journal, he noted, “The camera made it look like I was throwing him out of the club, but that’s not what happened at all.”
“I’m already trying to get ready for next week, and you know how they do it, they just spin narratives," Crosby told The Review-Journal. Despite the loss, the bond between Crosby and Caldwell remains strong, with Crosby frequently expressing his affection for the coach.
