In Raleigh, a beam of financial relief is shining down on residents struggling with high energy costs, thanks to a novel solar energy initiative. The City of Raleigh has launched a pilot program under the broader Solarize the Triangle campaign, offering free rooftop solar installations to a select group of homeowners on fixed incomes.
Among the beneficiaries is Wanda Statum, a long-established resident of Raleigh, who, like many, grapples monthly with bills that seem to stretch her budget to its limits, now she finds a respite as her home is empowered by the sun, according to a recent City of Raleigh statement. Nearly a dozen residents have been chosen for this initiative, which aligns with Raleigh's ambitious goal to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and simultaneously ushers in a wave of equity, environmental justice, and resilience against the climate's caprices.
The clean energy crusade isn't just about going green; it's a tangible stride toward diminishing the monthly financial burden of energy costs for those enlisted. The city's collaboration with the Central Pines Regional Council and Yes Solar Solutions for installation underscores a commitment to community and sustainability.
