A Mexican national with a prior felony conviction for drug charges has been sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison for his third illegal entry into the United States. Juan Rodriguez-Acevedo, 57, received a 46-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to the charge in June of this year, according to a release from the United States Attorney's Office. U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger handed down the sentence.

After being deported to Mexico in 2018, Rodriguez-Acevedo had a prior conviction in 2007 for trying to distribute a large amount of methamphetamine. Each time he returned to the U.S. after being deported, he was caught by law enforcement. The first arrest happened in Texas, and after serving time and being deported again, he was arrested in Lake City by Immigration And Customs Enforcement officers, as stated by the United States Attorney's Office.

During his arrest in March 2024, Rodriguez-Acevedo confessed to reentering the United States illegally in June of the previous year, according to court documents. His repeat offenses brought him back into the legal system, where Assistant United States Attorney David B. Mesrobian prosecuted his case. The Department of Justice notes that Rodriguez-Acevedo's case was handled by Immigration And Customs Enforcement's and Removal Operations, as reported by the United States Attorney's Office.
