Last night, a Forestville man with a plethora of outstanding warrants found himself in handcuffs after a brief altercation with Sonoma Sheriff's deputies in Rohnert Park. The man, Matthew Mulholland, 40, was recognized by patrolling deputies as aware of his seven felony warrants. According to the Sonoma Sheriff's social media post, the encounter occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Blvd.

The deputy, conducting the routine patrol, made contact with Mulholland, but according to the sheriff's department, the suspect had attempted to walk away. What should have been a standard detaining procedure quickly escalated when Mulholland began to pull away and hide his hands. Mulholland's noncompliance led to a "brief struggle" before he was ultimately subdued and arrested with the support of an arriving deputy, as per the Sonoma Sheriff's Office.

Upon his arrest, deputies discovered approximately 7 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe on Mulholland's person. These items contributed to additional misdemeanor charges for drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia alongside the charge for resisting arrest. The underlying felony warrants stem from cases with multiple law enforcement agencies in the area, involving the Sebastopol Police Department, Healdsburg Police Department, and the Sheriff’s Office.
