This October, Round Rock is uniting with the American Planning Association and other cities to celebrate National Community Planning Month—a time when the focus turns to the enduring impact of planning in our urban environments. According to the City of Round Rock's announcement, the City’s Planning and Development Services Department is proudly showcasing its commitment to crafting a space that's safe and family-friendly. By striking a balance between progress and preserving the unique history of Round Rock, they aim to enhance residents' quality of life and to smoothly steer the city's economic and spatial development.
As part of the celebration, Mayor Craig Morgan officially handed over the Community Planning Month proclamation. Furthermore, Bradley Dushkin, the City’s Director of Planning and Development Services, presented the Round Rock 2030 Annual Report for 2023-2024 to the City Council on October 10th. This document outlines the city's efforts to fully realize its comprehensive plan, providing a roadmap for the upcoming decade. It's designed to, not only maintain but also advance strategic growth that aligns with their community's values and ambitions.
The Round Rock 2030 comprehensive plan was adopted in June 2020 and is comprised of a vision statement backed by twelve guiding policies, each with actionable implementation strategies. After a year of diligent work, Dushkin's presentation at the City Council meeting shined a light on the progress the city has made toward these strategies throughout this fiscal year. The Annual Report, now available for public download, tracks the advancements from October 1, 2023, through the end of September 2024.
Another remarkable feature of this year’s Annual Report is the inclusion of the Housing Report. Prepared by the Planning and Development Services, it analyzes Round Rock's current housing scenario, pinpoints gaps in housing types, and offers foresight into the potential for housing diversity within the city. Described as "missing middle" housing options, these are the dwelling types that stand to fill the space between single-family homes and larger apartment complexes, adding a well-rounded texture to the city's living spaces. The annual evaluation has become a vital part of the city's planning, allowing it to adapt and refresh strategies in response to the ever-evolving landscape of urban development.
