In a significant drug bust, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office recovered a substantial amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Tuesday. According to a post on the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, detectives with the Domestic Highway Enforcement/Regional Enforcement of All Crimes Team (DHE/REACT) were conducting operations near Interstate-5 and Hood Franklin Road when the seizure was made.

The California Highway Patrol officer involved was assigned to REACT, and during the stop for traffic violations, a trained narcotics K9 named Maverick detected the presence of drugs. As the dog conducted its open-air sniff, 34-year-old Edy Garcia, who was a passenger in the vehicle, tried to escape on foot, and was quickly apprehended.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up 94.4 pounds of methamphetamine stuffed in the trunk. Officers also found 15 grams of cocaine, and $2,077 in cash inside the vehicle, Garcia, along with 28-year-old Quendi Fernandez-Molina who was also in the car, were taken into custody on charges related to drug trafficking. Both are currently held on $1 million bail and are expected to face court on October 17.
