A stabbing incident in southeast Columbus has left a man in critical condition, with police currently investigating the circumstances that led to the violent altercation. The situation unfolded yesterday evening, with the Columbus Division of Police responding to an emergency call regarding a suspected stabbing at around 7:10 p.m. in the 6900 block of Gemstar Road, as reported by NBC4i.
When officers arrived at the location, they discovered signs of a struggle indicated by blood on the street. However, the victim was not on the scene. It was approximately 20 minutes later when an individual suffering from stab wounds self-presented at Mount Carmel East Hospital. The victim was quickly taken into surgery and, according to ABC6, has since been upgraded from critical to stable condition.
Details surrounding the stabbing suggest an altercation between the victim and a group of juveniles. "Officers spoke with people at the scene and determined the man was stabbed by an unknown suspect while he was in an altercation with a group of juveniles," Sgt. Joe Albert noted in a statement obtained by WBNS. Several juveniles were detained at the scene, although no formal charges have been brought forth at the time of reporting.
With an ongoing inquiry and no suspects currently charged, the Columbus Division of Police urges anyone who might hold valuable information about the stabbing to contact their Felony Assault Unit. Inquiries can be directed to the division by phoning 614-645-4141, a plea made public by all three sources covering the incident.
