Two motorcyclists were injured in a crash that occurred in Monroe County last Saturday night when they failed to navigate a curve on Steffas Road, near Heiss Road. The riders, part of a group of three, were traveling north when two of them crashed into a ditch, with the third motorcyclist stopping to render aid, according to ClickOnDetroit.
The Michigan State Police identified the injured parties as a 43-year-old man from Carleton and a 34-year-old man from Southgate. Per the report by WTOL, both motorcyclists left the roadway before they crashed, leaving them with injuries. The Carleton resident is said to have sustained critical injuries and was taken to Corewell Health Trenton, while the Southgate man's injuries were non-life-threatening.
Authorities believe that alcohol and speed were major contributors to the accident involving the motorcyclists. "Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash," ClickOnDetroit reported. Following the incident, the third motorcyclist, who had stopped to help, was not reported to have sustained any injuries.
The Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with further information to come forward. "The Michigan State Police are asking if anyone has additional information concerning the incident to please contact Tpr. Samantha Hill at 734-242-3500," relayed FOX 2 Detroit.
