Honolulu is set for a weather change as an upper-level low moves northeast. A ridge will return, bringing stable, moderate to breezy trade wind conditions to Hawaii in the coming days. This transition will likely lead to passing low clouds and showers, especially in windward and mountainous areas. These conditions are expected to persist through the latter half of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates that while the ridge builds, there may be a slight disruption in the weekend's calm. A front approaching from the north is expected to weaken, temporarily reducing trade winds. This could lead to localized land and sea breezes, especially in sheltered areas, along with afternoon cloud buildup in leeward interiors that clears overnight. Forecasters expect brisk trade winds to return early next week as the front dissipates and the pressure gradient over the islands strengthens.
The aviation forecast indicates moderate to breezy trade winds, minimizing disruptions. However, windward and mountain areas may experience brief periods of reduced visibility due to low ceilings and showers, though VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions will generally prevail. Currently, there are no AIRMETs, or meteorological warnings for aircraft in flight.
The National Weather Service notes that gentle to brisk trade winds will be present near Hawaii into the weekend, staying just below the thresholds for a Small Craft Advisory. Swells from the north-northwest and south are creating elevated surf along relevant shores, with a long-period south swell exceeding model predictions and expected to taper off by midweek. Another set from the south may arrive by Thursday, continuing good conditions into the weekend.
