The National Weather Service has forecast a cool but dry Sunday for the regions encompassing Columbus, Cincinnati, Wilmington, and beyond. According to the National Weather Service, high pressure will ensure mostly sunny skies today, allowing residents to enjoy the fall weather despite cooler temperatures. Afternoon highs are expected in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
As the evening approaches, the weather is anticipated to remain clear, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. A shift in wind direction to the south is expected late in the day, which could mark the start of a warming trend that's forecasted to last through the middle of the week. This subtle change in airflow will likely contribute to slightly warmer temperatures on Monday, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Looking to the week ahead, Monday night ushers in a change as an upper-level ridge moves eastward and troughing starts in the Pacific Northwest. A robust southwesterly flow will introduce a warm air advection pattern to the Midwest, says the National Weather Service. This will lead to near-record or record temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Breezy conditions are also expected with the warm-up, raising potential concerns for fire weather threats due to the dry conditions in the Ohio Valley.
By Halloween Thursday, a cold front accompanying the trough is projected to sweep through the Ohio Valley, bringing rain. "A band of precipitation is forecast to move through the area on Thursday," according to the National Weather Service, followed by "continued breezy conditions." Although widespread precipitation is expected to drop around 0.1 to 0.25 inches, some areas might see more. Post-Halloween, the front passage should return to more normal temperatures for early November, with another wave possibly bringing an uptick in temperatures and another chance for rain later in the week.
The outlook is clear for most of the period for aviators, with only some high clouds. However, gusty winds are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could present flight challenges. Seasonal river valley fog could develop late tonight, potentially impacting early-morning air travel.
