On an early October morning, a case of theft from a construction site in Harris County led to a police pursuit and subsequent arrest. Deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office arrived at the 19600 block of Silver Saddle Drive, following reports of potential theft by suspicious individuals. Fleeing the scene, they encountered a white van, whose inhabitants quickly chose the path of evasion, abandoning their vehicle and attempting to elude capture on foot.
After a brief chase, one man, identified as Alejandro Santiago Vargas, was detained by the pursuing officers. According to the official Facebook page for Constable Mark Herman’s office, "Alejandro Santiago was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Theft and Evading Arrest." His bond, perhaps a reflection of a deeply entrenched problem of wealth versus justice, was set at a modest $200.
The suspect's apparent partner in crime remains at large, with law enforcement continuing efforts to carve out a name from the shadows. During the search of the white van, a trove of building materials — including wood and Sheetrock — amounted to a value of $2124.64, were discovered. These materials, evidence of the interrupted crime, had been freshly stolen from a house under construction, the deputies confirmed.
The search for the second suspect, still ongoing in Texas, highlights the extreme actions some take in times of economic hardship. For more details on the events, readers can find the initial report by visiting the Constable Mark Herman’s Official Facebook Page.
