Yesterday evening on I-270, a harrowing event unfolded as Rafat Juaidi stood by his stationary Mercedes Benz. The fleeting tranquility shattered when an unidentified driver, behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Malibu, violently collided with him; the Chevrolet, color beige and likely dated between 2008 and 2012, fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of debris and unanswered questions.
The brutal impact near E. Main St. didn't just claim Mr. Juaidi, propelling him into his vehicle and then into two other adults who were with him. The force dispatching all three to the unyielding asphalt and the carnage have marked the Malibu, too. It will bear the scars of right front damage, a silent witness to the atrocity committed upon an unsuspecting man and his companions. In the grim aftermath, Columbus Fire Medic #5 sped to the gruesome scene, transporting Mr. Juaidi to Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Despite the valiant efforts of the medical teams there, he succumbed to his injuries at 10:37 pm, as reported in a media release by the Columbus Division of Police. The other two individuals, their lives spared from the finality of death, were also rushed to the same hospital with serious yet non-life-threatening injuries.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit orchestrated the investigation, delving into the events of that sorrowful night. They sought the perpetrator, the one who drove the beige Malibu, replicating the investigative rigor that such heinous acts demanded. They urge anyone with information to step forward, to render aid not to the wounded, who are beyond the immediacy of that kind of help, but to justice itself.
