In a substantial effort to combat the fentanyl crisis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the impressive reach of the state's "One Pill Kills" awareness campaign. Since its launch in September 2023, the campaign has garnered over 1.5 billion impressions, an announcement made by the Governor's office revealed. This multimedia initiative has spread its life-saving message through a variety of channels, including social media, podcasts, digital displays, and billboards, in an attempt to educate Texans about the dangers of fentanyl.

"Fentanyl is the single deadliest drug crisis our state—and our nation—has ever encountered," Governor Abbott stated, highlighting the gravity of the issue. The campaign's message is clear, only one pill laced with fentanyl can be fatal. Despite the campaign's initial success, Abbott confirmed Texas will continue this initiative through August 2025, aiming to reach even more citizens and prevent further tragedies.

Trina Ita, HHSC Deputy Executive Commissioner of Behavioral Health Services, emphasized the campaign's critical mission, "We can save lives by educating people about the risks of fentanyl and the fact that even one pill can kill," she told the Office of the Texas Governor. With additional funding of $2.5 million approved for the next fiscal year, the campaign will continue to employ a wide range of educational materials, including posters, digital signage, and public service announcements.
