Three teenagers were hospitalized after a shooting erupted on Detroit's west side, following a reported altercation among youths last night. According to CBS News Detroit, the incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. near the cross streets of Puritan Avenue and Wisconsin Street. Detroit Police Chief James White confirmed that the victims, aged 15, 16, and 17, were all expected to survive the attack.
Walking down Puritan Avenue while leaving the scene of the fight, officials from the 12th Precinct arrived less than five minutes to find the silver sedan fired shots at the teens, as described by Chief White in a ClickOnDetroit interview. The assailants had approached in a silver sedan before opening fire on the young individuals. Police are currently seeking the vehicle, leveraging good information and a vehicle description they have acquired.
The police response to the shooting was rapid, with officers being on the scene of the crime within minutes of the event. Recovery of the victims is steadfastly anticipated. "We're confident that it's closable, and we're confident that no one in the community is at risk as it is isolated to this fight," Chief White stated in an interview with ClickOnDetroit. The police have ruled out any ongoing threat to public safety tied to this event, viewing it as an isolated occurrence.
Investigations are ongoing and further details are forthcoming with law enforcement working to put together the narrative of events leading up to the shooting. After they get the medical care needed, the police intend to speak with the victims who, having suffered such a traumatizing incident, will be at least able to physically recover from their injuries. Police are hopeful, armed with video evidence and witness information, to close the case promptly. Detroit PD urges anyone with knowledge on the matter to contact them at 313-596-1200 or anonimously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
