Seattle's downtown streets were the site of a tragic collision early Friday morning that claimed two lives. According to the Seattle Police Department's blotter, patrol officers responded to the incident around 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Pine Street.
The Seattle Fire Department arrived shortly after and worked to extricate two men from their SUV, entrapped within the twisted metal that once transported them with promises of durability and safety. Despite comprehensive life-saving efforts, the 23-year-old driver and his 24-year-old companion's days met an early and abrupt end, pronounced dead at the scene.
In the moments leading up to the collision, a white sedan driving north through a green light on 4th Avenue intersected with the SUV speeding west on Pine Street. The SUV failed to stop at a red light, culminating in a violent crash that spewed both vehicles onto the sidewalk, shedding fragments and shards as witnesses stood in disbelief.
Unharmed, the sedan's occupants cooperated with authorities, their cooperation starkly contrasting the chaotic scene that unraveled around them. Following protocol, no arrests have been made in the absence of immediate guilt. The Seattle Police's Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is now in charge of unwinding the sequence of events that led to such sorrowful outcomes.
