At a recent rally in Aurora, Colorado, former President Donald Trump unveiled "Operation Aurora," a campaign promise focused on deporting members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA). According to Denver7, Trump spoke for 80 minutes on illegal immigration, using imagery such as "deport illegals now" and displaying mugshots of TdA members at the event venue.
Trump described Aurora as a locale "invaded and conquered" by criminal gangs, a claim that resident Jodie Powell, as cited by KKTV, expressed skepticism about while acknowledging an uptick in crime. Moreover, Governor Jared Polis reacted to Trump's comments, stating, "Coloradans like myself love Aurora, love Colorado, and love the United States of America, and I am deeply disappointed that a candidate for the highest office in the land is willing to tarnish and attack the very people who would be his constituents," as obtained by CBS News Colorado.
The Trump campaign's focus on immigration comes as the Biden administration has already sanctioned the gang, offering a $12 million reward for the capture of three leaders. This administration's actions were highlighted in a report by KKTV, which contrasts Trump's new promises with past behaviors, including his response to Iran's attack on U.S. troops in 2020.
