As Halloween night creeps in, Vision Zero San Antonio steps up with tips to keep our costumed kiddos safe while they trick-or-treat. We're talking increased foot traffic which – shocker – includes lots of little ones. No surprise, pedestrian safety becomes a giant concern. A recent public service announcement from Vision Zero SA is focused on making sure this Halloween is less about scares from traffic accidents and more about spooky fun.
"Safety is the ultimate treat," Sean Beauvais, Vision Zero SA Program Manager, mentioned in a statement. It's clear – they want zero traffic-related injuries and deaths in the mix. Their approach? A sensible list of the five key safety measures that, honestly, everyone should be getting behind. These range from slapping reflective tape on costumes to kids packing those glow sticks and flashlights – all in the name of visibility for the drivers out there.
According to the Vision Zero SA government website, walking (not running – we're looking at you, overexcited trick-or-treaters) and sticking to sidewalks are top on the list. They're stressing that everyone keeps their heads out of the candy bags and eyes on the road, making eye contact with drivers before crossing, and waiting for cars to stop before moving. Groups are the go-to since they're inherently safer, and sticking to the bright streets is smart.
This Halloween, drivers need to be extra careful, especially in neighborhoods filled with kids out trick-or-treating. Vision Zero SA is reminding everyone to watch for little witches, superheroes, and other costumed characters.
