Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is slated to hit the campaign trail in Michigan with stops in Detroit, Flint, and Traverse City this Friday. As the Democratic vice-presidential candidate alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, he is ramping up efforts to secure votes in the critical battleground state.
Walz's schedule begins in Detroit where he is set to speak at 5 p.m., as reported by CBS News Detroit. He will then journey to Flint to rally supporters at 3:30 p.m., before culminating his day in Traverse City with remarks at 5 p.m. With the election looming on November 5, these events aim to aggressively harness the momentum of early voting, which has seen nearly 2 million Michigan voters casting ballots so far.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Walz and Harris' recent push in Michigan underscores its significance in this election. With polls showing a close race both statewide and nationally, the objective is clear - to resonate with voters in the last days of a contentious campaign season.
During his Traverse City campaign rally, set for 7:25 p.m., Walz is expected to draw stark contrasts between the Democratic vision and former President Donald Trump's platform, which the Harris-Walz campaign has criticized as hazardous to workers' rights and family economics. "Governor Walz will underscore the contrast between Vice President Harris’ vision for a New Way Forward to lower costs, protect workers’ rights, and defend our freedoms versus Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda that would undermine unions, raise costs on hardworking families, and give Trump unprecedented and virtually unchecked power over our lives," stated the Harris-Walz campaign in a release cited by upnorthlive.
The vice-presidential nominee's visits to Michigan come amidst a flurry of political activity from both parties. His Republican counterpart, Senator JD Vance, had engagements in Saginaw and Holland earlier in the week. Furthermore, the state hosted a rally by Donald Trump in Traverse City last week and anticipates an appearance by former President Bill Clinton to campaign for Harris, marking the high-stakes game both sides are playing to win over Michigan voters.
