A man from Warren has been charged with the second-degree murder of a co-worker at a Detroit manufacturing plant, as per the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Jonathan Leeavert Williams, 31, allegedly fatally shot Harmond Ulmer, also 31, in an incident escalating from an argument at the Detroit Manufacturing Systems facility. According to a report by CBS News Detroit, the deadly confrontation occurred late on Sunday.
Responding to a shooting report at 11:30 p.m., Detroit Police discovered Ulmer's vehicle, crashed into a telephone pole on the 12600 block of Artesian Street. Ulmer, inside the car, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead shortly after medics arrived. It has been alleged the dispute that led to the tragic shooting was over a food delivery, although details are unconfirmed. Johnathan Williams has been remanded to jail after his arraignment. The Detroit News reports that if convicted, Williams could face up to life imprisonment. An attorney for Williams was not immediately available for comment.
The next court hearing for Williams, including a probable cause conference, is set for Oct. 16, followed by a preliminary examination on Oct. 22. These court dates were outlined in the charges pressed against him, which include one count of felony firearm along with the murder charge. The shooting has reverberated through a city where, despite a notable decline in violent crimes as pointed out by The Detroit News, such acts of violence shock and stir the community's quest for peace and safety.
