In a recent incident that unfolded in West Baltimore, at least three police officers fatally shot a man after a vehicle collision escalated into a chase and a confrontation. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley provided details on the situation, explaining that the sequence of events started when a driver went down a one-way street in the wrong direction and caused an accident, as reported by CBS News Baltimore.
The incident transpired around 8:45 p.m. near the area of Pennsylvania Avenue. After crashing, the driver—who was not identified then—initially sat on the curb as police started their investigation. However, the ordeal took a sudden turn when the suspect bolted, running from the officers. He was subsequently found hiding in a ditch over on Argyle Avenue. According to statements detailed by Fox Baltimore, officers attempted to render aid after the shooting, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
When officers located the man, Worley stated that they instructed him to show his hands upon seeing a gun, which resulted in them discharging their weapons. Police confirmed that a weapon was recovered at the scene. While no officers were harmed, they have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, a standard procedure in such cases.
