Williamson County has embarked on a significant infrastructure project with the groundbreaking of the second segment of the East WilCo Highway, an initiative aimed at improving connectivity and easing transportation challenges. Local community figures and elected officials assembled to initiate the development of a new roadway, between CR 137 and CR 404.

Addressing the necessity of the project, Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles emphasized the critical nature of the highway for the eastern region, "When I became county commissioner, I was told the East Wilco Highway was the most urgent project that we needed for the east side. People asked me in the beginning if it was really needed, well, people aren't asking me that anymore," Boles explained, in a statement made by WilcoTX.gov.

The financing for this phase of the East WilCo Highway comes from the 2023 voter-approved Williamson County Road Bond. The project bears considerable significance as it represents the second-largest project funded under the road bond initiative. It is expected that this new segment of highway will be operational by summer 2027, involving an investment of $64.4 million into the region's transport infrastructure, as per WilcoTX.gov.
