The National Weather Service has forecasted a calm progression into autumn for Columbus, Cincinnati, and surrounding regions. According to the National Weather Service published earlier today, high pressure is building across the area, leading to dry conditions expected to persist through the end of the week. Moreover, a cold front is slated to breeze into town come Sunday, with chances of precipitation remaining slim.
In the near term, watch out for the fog that's been creeping up in the low-lying regions like NE Kentucky and the lower Scioto Valley. Visibility there has dipped below one mile at spots, prompting the issuance of a Dense Fog Advisory. The fog will, however, burn off by mid-morning to leave behind clear skies. Southerly flow and a slight temperature increase are also on the horizon, with today's anticipated highs resting comfortably in the mid to upper 70s.
As for tonight and heading into Friday, expect the potential for more fog, particularly near or south of the Ohio River, but otherwise, tranquil conditions are anticipated. The mercury will likely hover around the 50-degree mark before climbing back up to sit shy of the 80-degree line come Friday afternoon.
The extended forecast suggests that while Saturday may warm up to the lower 80s in parts of the area, a cold front expected later in the day will usher in a cooler trend for the week following. The front, largely predicted to be dry, could bring some showers to the eastern regions and will introduce prudent chances for a sprinkling late Saturday. After that, temperatures will settle between 65-70 degrees, with clearer skies dominating as high pressure takes the reins. Sunday night might also see temperatures dipping into the upper 40s under clear skies, with some valleys and rural spots potentially experiencing lows in the upper 30s.
For aviators, expect VFR conditions to improve post-fog throughout the day. Nonetheless, starting past 06z Friday, some more fog could roll in, affecting visibility again. Additional advisories may be on the table should these conditions persist into the weekend.
