As daylight saving time ends and we roll the clocks back on November 3, it's not just an extra hour of sleep that's calling—it's also a signal to reset your irrigation system. According to an announcement from the City of Winter Garden, landscape irrigation needs to be dialed back for the conservation ordinance. Starting in November and running through until March, the ordinance stipulates that watering lawns is to be limited to once a week.
With the shift into Eastern Standard Time, homeowners and businesses ought to remember these guidelines: water only when necessary, avoid the high evaporation period between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and ensure that no single zone is doused for more than one hour at a time. Furthermore, any automatic lawn sprinkler systems in operation must be equipped with a working rain sensor, ensuring they do not blindly follow a timer during downpours.
The watering schedule is simple: homes with odd-numbered addresses water on Saturdays, even-numbered homes on Sundays, and nonresidential properties on Tuesdays. This system helps balance water use, especially during the cooler, drier months when lawn irrigation needs are lower.
Residents and property owners must follow these rules to help preserve the environment and avoid penalties.
