In a significant shift for Winter Park’s culinary scene, Doshi, a modern Korean restaurant known for its elegant dining experience and recognition in the Michelin Guide, is set to close by the end of this month. According to Bungalower, the 35-seat restaurant has struggled to sustain operations amidst escalating food and labor costs.
Despite the acclaim for introducing an upscale Korean dining experience to local patrons and accolades, including a spot in the Michelin Guide and a 'Best Korean' title from the Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards, the financial pressures have proven too great to overcome. "Our goal was to introduce an elevated Korean dining experience to the city, and we're incredibly thankful to have achieved that. We never expected that Doshi would make it into the Michelin Guide, win the Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards for 'Best Korean,' or receive such overwhelming support from our community," Johnny Tung, the owner, stated, as reported by Bungalower.
The restaurant, which opened in July 2022, is currently welcoming guests for a final dining experience before the closure takes effect. Those interested in visiting Doshi for the last time can secure reservations via Resy. While the business landscape has proven challenging, owner Johnny Tung has indicated he is looking for a smaller venue to reestablish Doshi's presence in the food world.
Meanwhile, Doshi's residence in the Winter Park Whole Foods Plaza could soon see new developments. Tung mentioned the potential to lease out the space, though the specifics are yet to be decided. "We first need to close [Doshi] to figure it out," he conveyed to Orlando Weekly. Furthermore, Top Chef Season 3 winner Hung Huynh is currently involved in escalating Mills Market's offerings and working with Tung on a separate new restaurant concept. However, no clear plans have been confirmed regarding the current Doshi location.
