
Arlington's own Mayor Pro Tempore Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley has secured a seat among the nation's influential city leaders, having been elected to the board of directors for the National League of Cities (NLC). In her new role on the NLC board, she will serve a two-year term shaping policies and advocating for the needs of municipalities across the United States.
Advocating for local initiatives, the NLC functions as a collective voice for municipal leaders, emphasizing the necessity of fostering quality of life for residents in American cities, towns, and villages. In her time with the NLC, Odom-Wesley has notably contributed her expertise to the organization's efforts, actively participating on the Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee and holding vice-chair positions on the Transportation & Infrastructure Services Committee, as reported by the City of Arlington's official website.
In her statement, as per the City of Arlington's news release, Sharon Weston Broome, President of the National League of Cities and Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, highlighted the importance of localized governance, "Local leaders are the most trusted government leaders in our country. We provide steady, principled leadership for America’s 19,000 cities, towns and villages." She acknowledged the relentless dedication of the collective to "bring our communities together," facing the multitude of challenges that are posed to them head-on.
