A brush fire in Bristol, Wisconsin, rapidly escalated to a four-alarm conflagration yesterday, demanding the effort of multiple fire departments. The blaze, which ignited near 93rd Street and 184th Avenue, was reported approximately just before 4 p.m., according to a statement obtained by FOX6Now. Bristol Fire Chief John Niederer remarked, "This fire quickly moved into a 4th alarm fire. Bringing in additional resources not to just battle the fire but also the cold."
Firefighting units from Kenosha, Racine, McHenry, and Lake counties were mobilized to join forces and tackle the fire that scorched an estimated 10 to 20 acres of marshland. The culmination of their efforts, over a stretch of two hours, managed to successfully contain the blaze to the affected vegetation, with no residential or commercial structures harmed, as reported by WISN. The initial spark for the fire is suspected to have been yard work gone awry, amidst disposing of yard waste, the fire chief indicated series of events to TMJ4.
Officials highlighted the critical nature of exercising caution when engaging in controlled burning, especially during periods of dry weather that can so easily to allow flames to spread beyond intended borders. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to report any signs of uncontrolled fire promptly, so as to avoid incidents that could escalate rapidly, as did the blaze on Wilmot Road, remarked by Chief Niederer to FOX6Now.
