A Canton home's back porch became the scene of a small but urgent crisis yesterday morning when a dog was injured in a fire started by an electric heater. According to a release from the Canton Fire Department via Cleveland19 News, firefighters were summoned to the 700 block of Shorb Avenue NW just before 10 a.m., where they discovered homeowners attempting to douse the flames with a garden hose.
Alerted by a dog's howling, a neighbor informed the residents about the fire erupting on their porch, where the dog was caged. As detailed in a press release obtained by WHIO, this neighbor tried to contain the fire with a garden hose, extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher, and subsequently transported the burned dog to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
According to reports, an electrical heater instigated the fire, which damaged the home's porch and siding. The Canton firefighters arrived swiftly on the scene but found that the fire had already been quelled by the time they arrived, as per information from a FOX8 report.
