As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Solano is launching its "Maximum Enforcement Period" (MEP) to manage the influx of festive travelers. The MEP will begin at 6:01 p.m. tomorrow and continue through 11:59 p.m. next Sunday, during one of the year's busiest travel times. According to CHP Solano, CHP officers across the state will be vigilant, enforcing safe driving practices and seat belt use.
CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee shared, "Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness, and our mission is to ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely." He further emphasized the importance of vehicle preparation, early travel plans to accommodate heavy traffic, seatbelt compliance, and the imperative to drive sober. Despite these yearly reminders, the last Thanksgiving MEP saw 1,047 DUI arrests and 27 fatal crashes within CHP's jurisdiction, as per CHP Solano.
Reminding the public of their crucial role, the CHP Solano urges everyone to "buckle up, drive sober, refrain from speeding, and avoid distractions."
