As the high pressure builds east across the Great Lakes, Clevelanders are bracing themselves for the 'coolest night so far this Fall,' with temperatures slated to plummet into the upper 20s in some areas and hover slightly warmer in the lower 30s along the lakeshore.
With the high-pressure system steadily in command for Wednesday, the area is set to warm up gradually. National Weather Service Cleveland details that warm air advection will begin to spike ahead of the next arriving system, which appears to split the skies with above-average temperatures in the mid-50s. However, increasing high cloud cover is expected to mar the horizon by mid to late afternoon, a subtle intro to the wetter weather beckoning from the wings.
Weather will take a turn come Wednesday night, with National Weather Service Cleveland signaling an impending low-pressure system and surface cold front to sweep through, leading to "a good period of isentropic ascent with forcing from a 45 knot low level jet," which the service says provides "high confidence is rain during the late Wednesday night through Thursday period." This system is forecasted to bring rainfall of around a half to three-quarters of an inch, making for a soggy end to the week.
Cleveland's marine conditions aren't to be left out of this midweek weather narrative. Northerly solid winds on Lake Erie are prompting Small Craft Advisories, which are anticipated to relax later, morphing into southeast winds as the high pressure shifts east. A "40 knot low level jet will be over the lake on Thursday morning," National Weather Service Cleveland mentions, which could to briefly churn up the waters enough to possibly necessitate further Advisories. However, the service has yet to make the call.
Looking beyond the midweek maelstrom, the forecast hints at a brighter horizon. The weekend is set to usher in dry conditions with "temperatures near average values on Saturday," culminating in a warming trend by Sunday. As for next week's outlook, National Weather Service Cleveland tentatively notes, "just have low pops heading into Monday for now," with temperatures possibly reaching the balmy thresholds of 60 degrees come Monday.
