The Cleveland Browns have made some immediate adjustments to their offensive line following a recent injury. The team placed tackle Dawand Jones on injured reserve after a fractured fibula sidelined the player during a tough game against the New Orleans Saints. The injury resulted from an unfortunate encounter with his linemate during the second quarter, putting Jones out for the remainder of the season, as per Reuters.
Cleveland signed Geron Christian from the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad to the active roster to fill the gap. This isn't Christian's first stint with the Browns; he previously started nine games at left tackle for the team in 2023 and appeared in one game with the Rams this season. The Louisville alumni, standing 6-5 and weighing 315 pounds, is in his seventh NFL season and has 59 games with 25 starts under his belt, as noted by the official Cleveland Browns website.
Meanwhile, Jones' absence leaves a tangible void in the Browns' offensive lineup. Before sustaining the leg injury, Jones had started in five games as a correct tackle and three as a left tackle this season, showing his versatility on the field. According to Reuters, the 6-foot-8, 374-pound player was a fourth-round pick from Ohio State in 2023 and had demonstrated promising development in his starts before the setback.
Despite the shakeup, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Jones' surgery is necessary, and he is expected to miss the rest of the season. Christian, now donning jersey No. 72, will look to reinforce Cleveland's O-line as he brings his experience back to the Browns, where he has already established some level of continuity. He previously stepped up for another injured lineman, Jack Conklin, in 2023. Cleveland's local news outlet, Cleveland19 News, also acknowledged Christian's return to the Browns.
