When the Cleveland Guardians step up to the plate in 2025, they'll be donning newly designed threads intended to blend tradition with fresh zest. The team's makeover was announced last Friday, with assurances that these updates will pay homage to the Guardians' 124-year saga in the big leagues. Cleveland's white home kit will stick to its roots with the iconic 'Guardians' scrawled across the jersey but with a twist—the logo will sit squarely rather than at its erstwhile slant, disclosed the team in a press release obtained by WKYC.
In a fashionable twist, a new hat is set to hit the field alongside the white garb. Fashioned with a red body and a blue bill, this cap will be an exclusive match for the white uniform set, a stark change from the all-blue hat with a red bill meant for all other outfits. A peek at the red alternate home uniform reveals a chest decorated with ‘Guardians,’ now in the club’s Bridge Print font, flanked by blue-white-blue piping, lending an updated feel to the ensemble, reported by WKYC.
The most dramatic alteration comes in the shape of the blue alternative road jersey. Ditching the 'Cleveland' across the front, it now showcases the 'Diamond C' emblem, a tribute to the franchise's jerseys adorning a 'C' from 1901 to 1945, including the ones from the 1920 World Series champs. This detail was confirmed in a FOX8 news release. Not to be left out, the gray road uniform will sport the 'Cleveland' in the Bridge Print font, keeping true to its current design with the same red-blue-red piping as the home white.
While fans can't yet snatch these outfits from the Guardians Team Store, they are expected to be up for grabs before the season starts. During a podcast episode unpacked by Cleveland.com, sportswriter Paul Hoynes discussed the updated uniforms, positing that the new alternates are particularly eye-catching. "I really kind of like the the alternate Rd. uniforms that they’re going to have the blue jerseys with the big, you know. C on the chest. You know that’s a big. That’s a big change from last year," Hoynes told Cleveland.com. While the new kits signify a slight shift in the team's aesthetics, they represent a well-measured pitch to honor the past while playing toward the future.
