Cleveland's ongoing struggle with car break-ins has led to the arrest of three juveniles as Cleveland police step up their efforts to combat thefts across multiple neighborhoods. According to a report by FOX8, the suspects, ages 14 to 16, were caught in the act on Wednesday, with police responding to vehicle break-ins in a parking lot off West 25th Street. The trio has been linked to similar incidents in Ohio City, Battery Park, and the West 25th Street/Shoreway areas.
During the operation on Nov. 13, as per a statement provided by WKYC, officers spotted and pursued a stolen copper/orange Kia. The driver, a 14-year-old male, was later apprehended at a gas station after attempting to evade police, and a firearm was recovered. While apprehensions were made, a 16-year-old and a second 14-year-old suspect fled on foot after one tried to maneuver the Kia but inadvertently reversed into a detective’s car. However, they, too, were shortly after taken into custody.
Detailed accounts from Cleveland19 News highlight that the arrests unveiled several stolen credit cards, suspected stolen property, three window punches, two loaded magazines, a black magazine holster, and a second firearm in the stolen vehicle. The young suspects are now facing charges including felonious assault, felony fleeing and eluding, failure to comply, criminal damage, motor vehicle trespass, and carrying a concealed weapon.
