In a recent ceremony spotlighting student support, Columbus City Schools snagged several accolades for their counseling programs. At the All Ohio Counselors Conference held in Columbus, four schools from the district were celebrated for their commitment to guidance and development. "This recognition affirms that we are on the right track in supporting our students both academically as well as socially and emotionally," East High School Principal Dr. Kelvin Watson told Columbus City Schools' news.
The Ohio School Counselor Accountability Report, or OSCAR, highlights exemplary counseling programs in state schools, focusing specifically on how such programs bolster student achievement and personal growth. This time, staff from North Linden Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, Columbus Online Academy, and East High School were the honorees. Principal Aundray Brooks of North Linden Elementary stated via Columbus City Schools, "It not only builds students' confidence but also equips them with skills to navigate challenges, voice their opinions, and engage meaningfully with others."
The awarded schools and their honored staff include Adriane Swetland, who attended North Linden Elementary School, Ashley Kay from Indian Springs Elementary School, Katie Eisley at Columbus Online Academy, and Erica Grimes, Carrie Fredrick, and Erica April Posey from East High School. The crucial work of these counselors encompasses a broad range of support for the students, from academic guidance to assistance with social dynamics and personal challenges.
The impact of school counselors extends beyond the classroom and into the future of each student they guide. By removing barriers to learning, they play a pivotal role in promoting the well-being of the student body. In recognition of the achievements at East High School, Dr. Watson avowed, according to the Columbus City Schools, "[East High School] is deeply honored to receive recognition from the Ohio School Counselor Association for the exceptional work of our counseling staff." These words underscore the integral work of guidance staff in shaping supportive educational environments where students can thrive.
